25 year Diamond now and creeping up on lifetime status but will a few years away to get to 2,000,000 points.Įver since I started frequenting this blog regularly my knowledge about the cc game has increased exponentially (although doesn’t mean much since I started from pretty much zero) but I picked up pretty quickly that rather than look at each card individually one has to see how each card complements each other in a full deck. Likely won’t put $40,000 on it this year so will use my “one time” Diamond extension for 2025 then likely will upgrade the card to Aspire (if a bonus) or simply apply for it to continue Diamond. The $15,000 a year for free night certificate is easy to hit (then switch to my Hyatt card to get the extra one for $15,000 there) – BTW all non-bonuses spend like insurance, taxes, tuition, etc that get basically same value as other cards (and yes some have slight fees – like 2.35% on my property tax bill of $11,000 but that is largely offset by 3x points (1.5% total by my value) and getting me close to the free night certificate). I also stay in Hilton pretty much every quarter so will get at least $150 credit (even if miss a quarter) that basically offsets the card cost. I have PP with my Chase Sapphire Reserve (and Amex Platinum although the CSR PP is obviously the one I use since broader acceptance) so losing 10 PP visits is nothing for me. I’m currently Hilton Diamond (with non-bonused spend of $40,000 on this card), lifetime Marriott Bonvoy, Hyatt Explorist (earned even though not a great level in their program) and IHG Platinum (with card). Personally I get great value from this card. Having some status with a large chain like Hilton makes sense and the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card is a good way to get that.įor rates and fees of the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card, click here I find I get the most value out of the Hyatt program, but I have Hilton status thanks to American Express. (Enrollment in the complimentary Emerald Club® program is required.) In what I’d consider more of a top off to the card’s value, cardholders can receive complimentary National Car Rental® Emerald Club Executive® status. Hilton, Conrad and Crockfords Main Pool, Las Vegas You’ll earn a Free Night Reward from Hilton Honors after you spend $15,000 on eligible purchases on your Card in a calendar year.Cardmembers receive complimentary Hilton Honors TM Gold Status (if you spend $40,000 on eligible purchases on your Card in a calendar year then you can earn Hilton Honors TM Diamond Status through the end of the next calendar year). The card comes with $200 back each year on eligible Hilton purchases after you use your Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card ($50 in statement credits each calendar quarter). In terms of keeping it beyond the first year, I think the card’s $150 annual fee ( see rates and fees) is worthwhile because: gas stations – don’t make the card top of wallet for that spend.Īpplying for the card makes all the sense in the world with an offer to earn 170,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points after you spend $3,000 in purchase in your first 6 months of cardmembership. I’d say it’s worthwhile for Hilton semi-regulars that don’t go all in with the most premium Hilton card.Įarning 12 points per dollar on for each dollar of eligible purchases charged on your Card directly with a hotel or resort within the Hilton portfolio makes it worth using the card for Hilton spend (even compared to a transferrable points card earning 3x).Īlthough the rest of their accelerator categories – from U.S. So the loss isn’t a loss to them and the new quarterly Hilton benefit is worth it. But several readers have convinced me that this is a net positive for those most likely to come to this website because so many cards already come with Priority Pass and indeed with unlimited Priority Pass. This used to be one of the best value ways to access Priority Pass-participating airport lounges. When American Express raised the annual fee on the Surpass by $55 in the fall, offset that with a $50 per quarter Hilton statement credit, and eliminated the benefit of 10 Priority Pass lounge visits annually from the card, I wasn’t thrilled.I have some thoughts on the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card. Terms apply to the offers and benefits listed on this page. I do not write about all credit cards that are available - instead focusing on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same).
